The story

Not every horloger was a grand maison. The Lasne shop on the rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie kept its printed card exact and modest — a working watchmaker's paper, the kind slipped into a repaired watch's case on return. Ephemera like this is the closest surviving relative of the English watch paper tradition, and the Carnavalet's collection of Paris trade cards is one of the few places it survives at museum resolution, CC0, for walls.
