The story

A rock-crystal crucifix that is also a watch — devotion and horology keeping the same hours in one transparent case. The form watch at its most solemn: through the crystal the movement is visible, the mechanism as reliquary. Around 1600, prayer hours and clock hours were still the same idea wearing different dress, and this object refuses to choose between them. Time was holy before it was punctual.
